I know what an en is and I suppose ens is the plural, so I’m a DQ unless this isn’t a plural but something else entirely.

Statistics show that 73.28% of all words that end in s are plural nouns. On the other hand, the great majority of Latvian surnames also end in s.

No, it’s surnames, but Latvian surnames are modified by gender – so a man is Berzins, and a woman Berzina. But (as you’d expect) when generic references are made to the family, it will be the Berzins family, not Berzina.
