All – in my haste to share the new word, I sent out the message with the heading from the previous round. On the off chance that someone might thereby have overlooked it, I’m resending. Here it is:

The new word, barring too many DQs, is:

FARCY

where capitalization has no significance. And to save trouble, it is NOT associated with farce, as in a light comedy.

Please send your creative yet plausible definition of FARCY to amal...@comcast.net by 8 AM EST on Friday, April 16, 2021  roughly 42 hours from now, which is:

Paris, France                                       Wed, Apr 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm CEST

London, United Kingdom                 Wed, Apr 14, 2021 at 1:00 pm BST

San Francisco, USA                            Wed, Apr 14, 2021 at 5:00 am PDT

Auckland, New Zealand                   Thu, Apr 15, 2021 at 12:00 midn NZST

Tbilisi, Georgia                                   Wed, Apr 14, 2021 at 4:00 pm GET

And be careful to send it to me, not to the whole group.

If you know what FARCY means (or think you do) let me know ASAP.

Some time travel may be necessary if you don't live in the Eastern US.

All – with not quite 12 hours to the deadline, I’ve received defs from only seven players –

Mike Shefler, Johnny Barrs, Deborah Fein, Judy Madnick, Dan Widdis, Paul Keating and Tim Lodge.

I’d love to have a bunch more.

All – Here are a grand total of 11 definitions of FARCY, one of which is the real def, and the others being more or less creative inspirations. I had hoped for a few more, but apparently the word did not get some folks’ creative juices flowing.

  1. Printing. of color: oversaturated

  1. A room set aside and furnished for orgies.

  1. A disease of horses, sometimes of oxen, of the nature of scabies or mange.

  1. The condition in fish of having a symmetrical tail.

  1. Of agricultural soil, easily worked.

  1. industrial sabotage

  1. A lightweight bicycle used by carriers to deliver mail between settlements in Australia (ca. 1830-85).

  2. A cul-de-sac.

  1. A meat-based spicy sauce

  1. ScottishObsoleterare. Leprosy.

  1. a small epaulet or shoulder knot.

Please let me have your votes by 9 AM US Eastern Time on Sunday 4.18.21, which is (I’ll get it right this time):

New Brunswick, USA                      Sun, Apr 18, 2021 at 9:00 am EDT

London, United Kingdom              Sun, Apr 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm BST

Paris, France                                      Sun, Apr 18, 2021 at 3:00 pm CEST

San Francisco, USA                          Sun, Apr 18, 2021 at 6:00 am PDT

Auckland, New Zealand                  Mon, Apr 19, 2021 at 1:00 am NZST

You also sent this as a reply to the previous thread, which may cause some users with threaded email clients to miss it.

My votes go to 7 and 8.

I think you forgot the real definition, but I'll reward the submitter of the following:

7. A lightweight bicycle used by carriers to deliver mail between settlements in Australia (ca. 1830-85).

and

10. ScottishObsoleterare. Leprosy.

I'll try 3, which seems to be popular, and 11, which doesn't.

I've never (knowingly) been in a home that had a #2 (A room set aside and furnished for orgies). I didn't even know such rooms existed. I must lead a very sheltered life!

I'll vote for the unloved 1 & 2 - I'm sure the Romans would have had a word for this.
