I just want to confirm that I'm the next dealer. So far I have four votes (is that accurate?) and I guessed the correct definition, which doesn't appear in my score...yet. But I received an email from Mike indicating that Tony may be the next dealer. Color me confused!

I only see three votes for my definition. I see no votes from Judy at all
(N.B., I did not vote).

Hmmm...I know that I voted for the "real" definition because it was so similar to mine. I don't recall what my second vote was for. It appears that Chris never received it, and to be perfectly honest, at this point I don't care if it means that Tony deals. LOL!

Judy, Chris is reporting this:

13. In an excited or tumultuous state. Votes from: Cunningham, dixonary, JohnB and Shefler
Submitted by: Madnick, who scores natural 4.

Player Def Voted for Votes Guess DP Total
------ --- --------- ----- ----- -- -----
Madnick 13 2 & 9 4 4

So you say you definitely voted for the real def. Chris thinks you voted for 2
and 9. If you really voted for 2 and 3--the real def--you have 6 points
(assuming "dixonary" means Efrem,as usual). Since I never received your vote
in email, I can't verify this, but it looks to me like you're the dealer.

“Dixonary” isn’t me. I’m away from my computer with the records, but I recall voting for two with oil in them around the middle of the list.

(This is when the new method is a PITA. The conversation now is strictly in the group, and I have to keep changing to "to" field!)

Unless I hit the wrong key, I definitely voted for the "real" definition. I remember thinking that it was similar to mine but not combined AND that I was screwing up a D0 on what I believe was Chris's very first vote, just like what happened to me on my last deal.

Chris, do you still have my message? I've had a problem finding it in my "sent" file. As a result, I wondered whether you received it at all.

What a mess!

I've just looked on the Google dixonary site, and there is no record there of Judy's vote... maybe it did go directly to Chris and he recorded it as 2 & 9?

Shani, your message came directly to me, so I'm changing the "to" field to the Dixonary email address. (Glad I'm not the only one doing this!)

Then Chris definitely received my votes, and the question is whether I made a typo or Chris misread or incorrectly recorded it.

Chris, do you have my email?

Dixonary players: Please see Chris's message below His message also came to me directly, not the group.

Chris: I'm sure glad you found the message because for some reason it's not in my "sent" file. Gotta' love computers!

I'll try to get a new word out in a few minutes.

Judy, yes I have it. I think Cory was confused by the way messages are addressed now. I manually entered several votes because Cory showed the google group in the 'from' field. You indeed voted for 3 and 9 and I miskeyed the entry.

Judy,

Indeed. I’ll have to watch carefully next time since Cory was designed to parse messages as they were previously formatted. I didn’t have a problem with the def messages, except for the orphan in the junk folder but I should have caught that. I don’t know why your message didn’t get to the group but it definitely came to me.

I probably screwed up and simply "replied" without changing the "to" field. <sigh>  As far as I'm concerned, the new method is making life difficult for too many people. But...majority rules!

Judy, do you not have a “reply all” button?  Does it not include the group in the To: field when you click it?

Tony Abell

Ah, yes! The "Reply All" button! That option sends the reply to both the group
AND the individual person, so that the player always gets two copies of every
message, unless the sender has the presence of mind to delete the individual's
address from the TO: line before sending (which, in my case, means deleting
each character of the redundant name and address one by one).

Of course, all of that inconvenience is a small price to pay for...what was it
again? Preventing the occasional dixon?

Of course I do, but when you've been doing something a certain way for years when sending a message to every group you're in and one group changes the rules, it's easy to forget! In addition, 99% of my emails do not require "reply to all."

With Dixonary, in the past the only time we had to change the "to" field was when we submitted a definition. Seldom did I have to send a crown. :-) Now when we have a discussion within the group, we have to either change the "to" field or reply to all. A perfect example reflecting confusion was the recent flurry of emails regarding the next dealer. I received several private messages that should have gone to the group.

I've been told I'm not the only one who preferred the old way of sending group messages. IMO, sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone.

I now see what caused Cory’s confusion.  I’m sure that the original parsing algorhythm couldn’t properly handle the new ‘From’ field, i.e.  ‘dixo...@googlegroups.com on behalf of …’.  That explains why the def messages were properly handled but the ‘to all’ voting messages were not.  It’s time like this that I really wish Paul could revisit and recode Cory for all of the new changes in Windows.  Oh well, in the meantime, knowledge is power and hopefully, forewarned, I’ll be able to do my workaround.  I realize I’m probably the last Cory user in the known universe and I’m sure that I’m making work for myself that would be relieved by going to a different scoring software or just doing it with Excel but old habits die hard.  I’m not suggesting a change back.  That would only relieve one of the Cory problems.  The main one being that Paul used MAPI or IMAP protocol to scan and import messages.  I’ve always used MAPI but now the current version (and most versions since Vista) don’t play nicely with it.  Anyway, I’m sure a discussion of Cory is of interest only to me and the other 1 or 2 players that remember it.

I wonder what's going to happen when new players arrive and learn that Dixonary handles group messages differently than all their other groups. I have replied to all to Chris's message. Chris's name is in the "to" field and Dixonary and Dan Widdis are in the cc field. Will Chris and Dan received my message twice?
