After a great deal of back-&-forthing, publisher Grant Wylie and the DR3 design team have an idea that, believe it or not, might somehow satisfy both the DR1 purists and those who are aching to try out all the new and improved rules. DR3's box would contain all the cards, counters, etc. in toto], but the rulebook would just be an update of the DR1 rulebook. Other than some changes to the map, the purists would have everything needed to replicate the Minarian campaigns of their youth. Meanwhile, the complete rulebook would be available as a free PDF download from the website of Worthington Publishing, allowing players to print the pages to only the rules they want to use. Additionally (!), the complete 327-page full-color rulebook would be available for purchase via Amazon for $49. This publishing method would keep the costs and therefore price of DR3 a bit lower by not having that huge rulebook in every box.

I'm a bit out of the loop on DR these days, but my immediate
impulsive reply is to say, yes, that sounds good.
I'm in favour of anything that will increase the potential audience of the game - including whatever can be done to appeal to long lost classic DR nostalgia fans, to the DR 25 fans who played along with the custom rules you and others created, and hopefully also to some new fans who get drawn in by the art, the fantasy, the magic, or the allure of a 1990's game revival.
I'll buy whatever version actually makes it to print, regardless. And would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have Scarlet Empire appear in some form.
Phil.
