Adrian Cole has invited you to edit the following document:
Sender's profile photoArising from some background conversation, it seems people have things to discuss. The next workshop will be in Paris June 26-27.

Thanks to Criteo for offering their venue, which is in a beautiful part of Paris near Moulin Rouge. Particular thanks to PH for championing the cause.

So, let's meet again June 26-27, and keep in mind SF or similar for December. Like usual, updates and topics are welcome. Please add them yourselves.

Best,

As usual, things firmed up quite close to the workshop. For those interested, we'll be discussing api concerns like reactive tracing, messaging and links. Naver will reflect on 5 yers of pinpoint and merits and challenges to automatic tracing. We'll hear tales from the trenches by end users including Tyro and FT. We'll also leaarn about new projects from google and a mystery company represented by John Mace. Finally, with an on-site group of ~10, we should be able to get some code done!

Thanks to Criteo and specifically PH for getting this together. See many of you in a couple weeks.

PS tentatively next workshop will be Nov 30, Dec 1 in SF (site confirmation in process). This avoids US thanksgiving holiday and conflicts around two major conferences the following week (Spring One Platform and CloudNativeCon)

Just wanted to call out that AWS re:Invent is Nov 27 – Dec 1 this year which would likely prevent me from attending those tentative dates for the next SF workshop; not sure if that affects others who might attend the tracing workshop.

Hi Adrian,

Any possibility of recording the morning presentations?

Good point on AWS re:Invent (didn't realize this was a full week until just now). I'm sure this would impact Abhishek, too!

Of course, re:Invent follows thanksgiving, the following week is conflicted by both Spring One Platform (which I'll be at) and also KubeConf/CNCFCon (which some others will be at).

11-12 Dec is possible in SF (I can probably wrestle budget to extend my hotel until then)

Yeah we can try. Bluejeans says it supports recording.

Sorry, re:Invent folks. Nov 30Dec 1 in SF is a go for next time, location still pending but likely to confirm.

I was unable to get this to work. My flight would double in cost attempting to avoid the re:Invent conflict (happens to be a very cheap time to travel!). Plus, the original choice was due to a couple preferring that in the first place.

PPS we've not done any workshop in asia-pac and likely to be something of interest next year. Not sure when, but sounds fair as folks wishing to attend from these timezones usually have it worst.

OK I shared a doc for the next event. Coming out of the last one, it seemed many were interested in two things:

1. not interfering with US conferences that are stacked from late Nov until mid Dec
2. allow folks who have been perpetually unable to attend due to US, EU ping pong

The sweet spot is Nov 2,3 in Sydney (australia) This implies canceling the December SF idea, as it would be too much work and cost to do back-to-back (not to mention the scheduling conflicts). However, this doesn't preclude something else in US a few months later.

I will firm details as things confirm rather than post a tentative venue. Suffice to say Sydney and within 10m walk of either side of the Pyrmont Bridge. Which side of that bridge will be confirmed, so watch the doc before choosing hotel :)

Looking forward to seeing some new faces and some I've not seen in a while (mick who was at our first meeting!).

Best,
-A

PS As always please bear in mind space is usually limited, so let's not wait to the last minute and assume room, if possible :P

Hi All,

My company is willing to host the event (https://www.tyro.com/), which Adrian is happy with. We're at 155 Clarence St Sydney

For those looking to book a hotel, I can offer a little advice. I suggest you avoid the Breakfree on Clarence (unless you're not fussy about uncomfortable beds) and I can recommend that The Grace is fantastic and only a block away.

Cheers,

Simeon.
