Since I upgraded my E3 upright with DKC-900, I have a spare functional DKC-800 control unit with remote and cables (identical to DKC-850). Let me know if anyone is interested.

You won’t have a problem selling it. I might suggest that you mention what you want for it
Thanks Scott

Hello Peter,

Yes, it would help to say the location and also a guide price.

However, having now completed my 41st DKC900 upgrade, there are a couple of things you may wish to know. The DKC800 is not a DKC850. It can POSSIBLY become one with some internal tweaks BUT not all E3 units play ball. The majority will convert but I’ve had a few that just won’t. Myself and Richie Hayes share this experience.

If the conversion is successful, you will need the correct cable (15 pin Dsub) to connect the unit. You cannot just use a VGA cable. It could blow up!! The original 850 cables from Yamaha are pretty much gone now but Richie Hayes has an equivalent that I can vouch for.  Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Hello John,

Thanks, I did not know that. I think I might also have such a 15 pin Dsub cable, since that was used to connect the DKC-800 to my E3. However, it is still unconnected in my E3, since I did not bother to remove it when installing the DKC-900, but I think I can take it out is useful.

Kind regard,

Peter

Hi Peter.
Nooooo! It’s a different cable. The DKC 850 cable is quite special with crossovers and pins missing etc
Kind regards,
John Driscoll.

This makes me wonder why Yamaha never had a replacement for the DKC850.  I thought at one point the DKC900 would be updated to work, but that looks like a dead end.  A shame…

Well, I suppose the DKC 900 easily the replacement and Yamaha have to draw the line somewhere in the past and that line was drawn at the mark four.

Kind regards,
John Driscoll.

Ah thanks, I see. It is shown in the DKC-850 maintenance manual, called a DKC-850 connection conversion cable, and also shown in Richie's Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdspAKOugVs
https://www.yamaha.com/usa/remotelive/documents/130913_dkc850_dkvtv_connect_guide.pdf

I guess I will not take the risk of removing the Dsub and 12V supply cable from my E3 then. They run through the power switch block, and are fixed by many screws and tie-wraps.

Dear Scott and all,

Roughly 1200 euros seems a typical online price. I am open for other suggestions, in any case nice if I can make someone happy with the unused unit. I am based in the Netherlands.

Best,

Peter
