Hi all,
I am a tech with a reasonable amount of DKC experience. I am dealing with a Mark IV customer who is having an issue recording.

When you try to record, the counter doesn't start but stays at "0" which you can see on the PRC. However, the PRC is showing that it recording and says "recording" at the top of the screen. For all intents and purposes, it seems like it is recording but isn't. When you finish the recording, the song saves and labels itself. Upon playback, there is nothing there and the counter skips ahead to the end, even though actually no time goes by since the counter never went off.

The instrument is otherwise working fine. All the calibrations have been done and were successful. I feel like there is something I am missing but just can't think of it.
Any ideas?
thanks

Do you have any previously recorded disks that work ok?  If this is isolated to the recording function, it sounds like it could be a memory issue, have you removed and reset the memory chip on the board?  Be careful removing if you haven’t already done so, these things are fragile because of age.  May also be a dirty pin/slot.  Just my 2 cents.

Ok thanks. How do you reset the memory card? Just take it out while the piano is totally off and put it back in?
I will be careful. Thanks

I think he means "reseat" the memory card, not reset.
So remove it, visually check it for any damage, especially the contact pins on the edge of the card, clean the contact pins by carefully rubbing with a pencil eraser, dispose of all eraser shavings carefully, clean the contact pins with 91% or better alcohol, let dry, then carefully put the memory card back in its place, being careful to seat it correctly and making sure it clicks into place.
