Tired of the floppies???? I am curious how many have your piano connected to a PC either directly or wirelessly? What file format do you use? IE: MP3, Wav, Flac. If so, what player are you using? IE I-Tunes, WMP,DK browser, Sonos! Are you aware that you can convert your midi files to wav or MP3 files? You can also convert your smart disks to a merged wav file for Disklavier. If you have never listened to Smart disks you are missing out on some great music. It is unbelievable how much the piano adds to commercial cds http://www.kinura.net/mid2pianocd/

I have a Live Performance LX system (Disklavier-compatible), which plays most accurately from streams.  I use foobar2000 on Windows and Android to stream LX native and Disklavier/PianoDisc/QRS streams over Bluetooth.  The main disadvantage is that this provides no realtime control over tempo, transposition, pitch of the accompaniment audio, etc.  It would be really useful to have an app that generates the streams on the fly from MIDI data, permitting those controls to be applied.  I created such an application for Pianocorder systems over 20 years ago and have been thinking about doing something similar for modern systems, basically wrapping up everything I've learned about these systems in the interim.

I have been using SONOS with my MARK III/DKC-850 configuration for 20+ years

Using MID2PianoCD is a *godsend* to merge SMART PianoSoft MID with MP3 or WAV files ... but *only* if you can get the EXACT matching audio CD .. which is a major challenge using even local libraries, eBay and AMZN

Another challenge is that a good number of guitar-centric rock/folk/country recordings did *not* adhere to CONCERT C tuning in the studio ... and therefore MID2PianoCD can not successfully merge those songs as the audio will be out of tune ... however, if you play the original AUDIO CD with the MID files (either USB, in memory or on FD) then the MARK III (alone of all DKs) can adjust the speed of the CD player to tune the audio songs to the  MARK III's tuning

After merging the FD MID files and AUDIO CD WAV or MP3 vis MID2PianoCD, I really like to add album art, etc. metadata using TAG&RENAME (Austrailian freeware that is very powerful GUI but a little bit of learning curve ... what used to take me 20-30 minutes per album now takes about 2-3 minutes as I "power user" my way thru its GUI)

Thanks, to Alan, KC and others for reminding us of the power of MID2PianoCD and SONOS ...

A blessing compared to DK RADIO or PianoStream

Which I do subscribe to in order to help them stay in business, but I totally prefer being to directly pick a song or album and play it on my DK along the album art, etc. displayed in glorious original colors ... along with creating fabulous playlists such as QUIET solo classical, QUIET pop/rock, LOUD rock, LOUD 70's/80's, LATIN jazz, Sax jazz, Tenors ony, Sopranos only, Beatles only, British Invasion only, Broadway only, ADULT party mode, KIDS party mode ...

Using SONOS, it is totally *wonderful* to be able to shuffle thru a collection of these magnificent recordings on your $$$ piano)

Hi all commenters on this topic,

You’ve left me wondering.  I have a Sonos system on my home WIFI but I have no idea how to connect the DKV MKIV to it.  Perhaps some further explanation could be given.

I suspect that you are referring to the Yamaha-produced floppies that synchronise with a commercial audio CD.  I only have one – by Michael Buble, but I don’t have the CD or the floppy.  It was installed on my piano by Yamaha when I bought it.  Aaron, perhaps you could explain your process a bit further.

If I don’t have any of the Pianosoft recordings, that’s probably the end of the discussion for me.

Kind regards

Geoff Ward
