Dear members

I note from the Yamaha US site that the latest version of the firmware software for the DKV MK IV is v. 4.23.
Can anyone who has installed it tell me whether the version is a good stable upgrade?
Is it possible to download all relevant files at one time or must they each be downloaded individually?  There are 6 folders of files relevant to the v. 4 upgrade.  If bulk download is possible can it be explained to me please?

Kind regards

Geoff Ward

Don't worry about the file download questions.  I have downloaded each file separately and I wasn't a big deal.

Is v4.23 a good upgrade?

Kind regards

Hi Geoff

I think the latest upgrade, 4.23, will upgrade all previous versions.   It’s a very large iso file, 676,224 Kb

Hi Geoff

When I was looking at this upgrade I found a .pdf that gives comprehensive details about performing the upgrade.   You can find it here   https://usa.yamaha.com/files/Mark_IV_Update_Instructions_bc90278c2dba7a9b2b64e5ee6cfe881d.pdf

4.23 is a good update, I noticed it particularly stopped the sustain pedal thump on my Mk.IV in some of the PianoSoft pieces by smoothing the rate at which the sustain pedal moves up and down.

Did you notice any improvement in the voice samples in the accompaniments.

Hi Owen,
I don't there was any changes to the samples that I noticed, they've been pretty much unchanged since the version 1 software as far as I can tell.

Hi Geoff

I’ve managed to find how to locate the version number using the PDA.   I’ve tried it and it shows I have Version 4.23 already installed.   This is the procedure:

To see what version is currently in your Mark IV piano, using the PRC-100 controller, click on the MENU icon, lower far left corner, then click on SERVICE CENTER icon ( it takes a while to load).    On your SERVICE CENTER screen, click on 2. PROGRAM VERSIONS. The DIO VER is the current version in your piano

I know this may not help you if your PDA isn’t connecting to your piano but do you think I should upload it to the group for general information?

Best wishes

Hi guys,

Just checked on my PRC-100 in the Internet menu there was a Firmware upgrade to version 4.26build1 (pretty sure last week I upgraded to 4.25build1).

It took about 2 min to download the firmware from the PRC and after reboot it took about 25 minutes to upgrade. The last 20 min there were 2 blinking lights (blue and second yellow to the right) after which the piano shutted down itself.

After manual power on no new update was shown in the PRC.

Hope this will help someone.

Regards,
Dmitry

Confirmed the update from 4.25 to 4.26 is available. No obvious signs what has changed. no info or updated ISO on the Yamaha FTP website, PRC-100 version unchanged.
Usual update process as described by Dmitry above.

Hi Jason

I have just now visited the Disklavier FTP website and the latest version of the Mark IV software that I can find is v. 4.23.  Could you please post a link to the site you have visited where you found v. 4.26 of the software.

Kind regards

Geoff,
You get it via Internet -> Network Update on the PRC controller. It isn't on the FTP site yet.

Geoff - it is as Jason mentioned - right now only available via Network Update via the PRC-100 controller.

Hi

Spoke with Yamaha today.   The v4.26 update was only a network improvement and the updates from 4.23 to 4.26 were also only minor alterations in connection with new/additional/replacement parts;  if I understood correctly.   So the next major upgrade would be v4.3, but I wouldn’t hold my breathe now that the Enspire is on the market and the DKC-900 upgrade has been made available for the MKlV

Best wishes

The upgrade to 4.26 caused the Prc100 to not connect anymore. The disklavier ap on my iPhone cant find the DKV network either. Yamaha tech support spend an hour with me changing channels and CF cards. They think there needs to be an update for the PRC100. Is anyone having luck running 4.26 with the PRC-100

Good evening, everyone.

It is important to remember that when you do a Mark IV update of the piano, you need to do a related update to the PRC.

During the update of the piano, an update file is downloaded to the piano that is intended for the PRC. Using a utility program on the PRC, you proceed to update the PRC.

Of course, if your PRC will not connect to the piano, you can’t update the PRC that way. In that situation, I believe that Yamaha can provide an update for the PRC on an SD card that you insert into the PRC.

PianoBench

Thank you to everyone here

There was no update visible (on prc) when I updated to 4.23 nor 4.26. I am basing that on the procedure I used which was to click on the update icon on the PRC 100. It showed that the existing version and the new version were the same which surprised me. So I did not update the PRC because again, it seems there was nothing to update it to. What makes it a little more mysterious, is my friend Ken sent me a picture of his PRC 100 that does work with 4.26, and it looks like the same version as my PRC did.
Yamaha is working on getting me a SD card so I can perform the update that way. I’m not sure how I will update the TRC100 tablet nor what it’s gonna take to get the iPhone app to find the piano. I’m almost tempted to go backwards to 4.23 because that’s what I remember working. I did make an ISO CD update disk for that version because I downloaded it from the Yamaha site. The problem with going back to 4.23, as I think one of you pointed out, that it was designed to work with the upcoming streaming from Yamaha Disklavier radio etc.

Is anyone able to use 4.26 with the app on their iPhone?

Good morning, everyone.

Owen, I don’t know the answer to the question. The PCR is a pda from a company called Zarus (I may have the spelling wrong.) The Zarus pda has its own operating system.

As you have noted, there are little apps that are installed the PRC. Some appear to be generic apps that probably come with other incarnations of the pda, such as the apps for adjusting brightness and calibrating the tracking of the stylus.

The PRC Updater app was probably written by Yamaha. From what I can tell, it locates an update file on the Disklavier’s hard drive and then proceeds to install it on the pda. Thus, the file that is needed to update the PRC actually resides on the Disklavier. Without knowing how to get to any sort of file manager on the pda, I don’t know if the file can be found there after it has been installed nor how it would be accessed to do an update if it were to be found.

I think that the best course of action is to contact Yamaha directly. In the US:

I am reasonably confident that they have a method of updating the PRC by way of an SD card.

BTW, I should point out that there is a hidden reset feature on the PRC that should often be used in trouble-shooting:

—remove the back cover
—remove the battery
—use the stylus to put the little reset button

When pushing the reset button with the stylus, it can be hard to know if you have actually engaged it because the stylus tip is so thick. However, you can detect a small “click.”

When trying to re-establish a wi-fi connection to the piano, I would actually get under the piano and hold the PRC right next to the wi-fi card in the I/O center. If I still have trouble, I would turn off other sources of wi-fi temporarily.

The PRC is definitely the Achilles’ Heel of the piano.

Regards,
George
