A friend of mine is attempting to get FreeDV running on a desktop computer running Ubuntu. HDMI audio using the speakers in the monitor and a USB mic

We got it working..... but sometimes when he transmits, his transmitter will start pulsing and then the software locks up and must be "forced " to quit.  This is running only 10W.

He has a 14ft USB cable from the FTDX101D to the desktop computer box.
He installed clamp-on ferrites to the USB and HDMI cables.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Any way to try with a dummy load just to make 100% sure it's not RFI related?

HA!  (It's supposed to "pulse when you hold the

You are not going to believe this Mooneer!

One of the guys I am helping get this stuff going told me that he discovered we're NOT supposed to "hold" the spacebar for PTT instead of using it as a "toggle"!!!

It didn't occur to me that anyone would do that!  (holding a key on any keyboard results in repeating that character including the spacebar!!!)

Problem solved!
