Software solutions for bagging files?

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a software/utility to bag digital files and transfer them to digital archival storage? I was thinking of using AVP's Exactly but it looks like that is starting to get sunsetted/be no longer supported (is this true?). I'm also looking at LoC's Bagger, and DART which I'm just starting to learn about. (It should be open source or low-cost, and I'm just looking for a simple-to-implement utility at this point rather than a bigger installation like Archivematica.) Ideally something easy to use with minimal IT support.

I'm particularly interested in folks who have experience working with these (or any similar) products. And my IT folks want to have a sense of security vulnerabilities, whether the products are updated/maintained, and whether/how security vulnerabilities are reported to users.

Hi Jessica,

I'm the primary developer for DART. We built this tool specifically for the use case you describe: to make it easy for non-technical users to package digital materials and send them off for preservation. The project is actively supported, and we apply regular security updates.

A single knowledgeable user can configure the software and then distribute that configuration to other users, allowing them the get up and running quickly. You'll find more on that here: https://aptrust.github.io/dart-docs/users/settings/export/

Regarding security, we use a service called Dependabot to actively scan the DART code and report vulnerabilities in the underlying libraries. We fix these as they arise. Hi Jessica, 

We (University of Maryland College Park) are starting to use DART pretty extensively and so far it is working well for us. It is actively developed and maintained as the standard deposit tool for the Academic Preservation Trust, though it is intended to be a general purpose tool not tied specifically to APTrust. It is free and open source.  In addition to the graphical version, there is now a windowless, command line version (DART Runner) that can be used on servers that lack a windowing system.
