Hi Craig,

Correct if i am wrong: in digi modes it is common use that the ALC reading is low.

With digipi 1.9-4 the audio settings via alsa had no any effect on my IC-705. ALC reading was nearly maximum during tx and even with audio playback set at zero, the ALC output was not changing.

I upgraded to V.2.0 and with the exact same settings on the IC-705 the ALC reading are still high.
Now I can see a difference when I set audio playback with alsa to zero. Only a carrier goes out with a high ALC reading.
For sending packets not good, so I now set the audio playback setting at around 65 in alsa.
Packets seems to go out normally and received by other stations.

Does ALC reading matter in APRS? If so; how to set it low in IC-705?

Thanks in advance and 72

Hi Kees,

ALC makes a huge difference for SSB modes (HF).  Reduce Playback volume in the DigiPi
audio link until ALC is just barely detectable on the meter on your Radio.  Then press
[save configuration] on the DigiPi home page.  Each of the HF apps typically has a volume
slider also.

For FM/data/packet, I don't think it matters much.  I try to be just as loud as all the other packet
stations around me, both using my ears, and the volumes reported in PktLog.
