Hi all, i'm experimenting with my new Digipi 2.0, in FM APRS using AIOC interface.
I'm testing the rig inside home. I live in Rome Italy. There are many station in the aprs.fi map nearby but from my location i'm only heard by a digipeater IZ0HSS.2. However i did not listen it.  However my digipi is connected to APRS.IS.  I found looking at the pkt log that if i send a message with webchat i see in aprs.fi that the message has ben sent and i see ack in the pkt log from aprs.is.  However in the webchat windows the reply does not show up.
I wonder if this behaviour is normal since i do not hear the digipeater that repeat me .. or if i have some wrong configuration.   Here there is a the packet log  see :

My node is IZ0IBA-2 and my call from webchat is IZ0IBA.
73, Tnx for any help.

Salve Fabio,

The log doesn't show any received packets.  You should see a line with "audio level"
indicating a packet was received.  Indoor antenna, or stock HT antennas are normally
insufficient.  Hang a rollup j-pole on a balcony?  APRS coverage was fair in Rome
and poor in Firenze in my experience.

grazie,

Hello Craig, tnx for you quick answer. First, you have done a very impressive work on this little tiny device. My compliments !!!.
My house here in Rome is at first floor of a building in a zone that is .. let me say. .. a hole in the ground .. Rome is made of seven hills so the terrain does not help without an external antenna.
there is also a very strong electric noise like many big cities, that make me bite the dust.  I usually operate my station on my second house near the seaside about 50 km south of rome. You can see my landscape on my qrz,com page :-)
I quick understood that the problem was reception .. i made a local experiment installing on an other laptop here on a debian 13 direwolf with a second AIOC interface (JLPCB manufactered 5 interfaces for me) and configuring a local station to talk with my digipi node.  Rx was fine and decoding also .. Winlink however respond only by aprs.is so it is necessary that some station heard me to nofity the network i am nearby .. if not message cannot be received unfortunately. I ovverrided this situation for testing enabling network in aprsd.conf and WLNK-1 dialogs was fine.
I will try all the other nice features the digipi has from my holiday QTH.  Jpole on the balcony will be a new test for sure.
So for now .. thanks you ... and happy music .. i've been captured on the first video since you play guitar.  I play jazz (piano and keyboards) for fun... may be in the future we can have a jam session samewhere

Very well, thanks for the update!  I recall needing to be outside, at a
minimum to
hear APRS traffic in the Monti district, North of the Colosseum. There's
no way
it would work in my mid-level apartment.  Down by the Tiber, you're probably
too low -- in fact, operating radio near any fresh water is often bad as
you're
at the lowest geographic area :|

keep up the music!  I need more intro ideas... short, recognizable,
guitar-only...

Grazie,

Hello Craig, about the music intros the subject is pretty complex .. consider that intros is a matter of "Art" because you have to tell a story in a few notes.
However there are some techniques that can be used ... based on Music Harmony Theory .. it is a quite complex this to explain in a few word here but if you like we can arrange
a schedule on some DMR talkgroup and well be a pleasure to speek with you on this argument .. up to my English language limit :-)
