My father in law has Spectrum fiber. Spectrum manages their WiFi access points. The SSID (network name) for both 5 GHz and 2.4GHz are the same. Spectrum won't let you name the 2.4 GHz network to something unique so your 2.4 GHz only devices like DigiPi (or m1ke) can properly find and connect. Spectrum's solution is to call support and they will turn off the 5 GHz side for 30 minutes so you can connect. Still a bad idea since their router tries to steer the devices back to 5 GHz once the 30 minutes expires. 

Best real solution is to grab an old WiFi access point and use wired ethernet to connect it to the Spectrum router. Then login to the old router and configure its 2.4 GHz side to a unique SSID. Now you can connect all your 2.4 GHz devices without any issue! I used this to connect all his 2.4 GHz bird cams, security cams, doorbells, etc.

I had no issues connecting to the home wifi on Spectrum. on 2.1.3
 what I did see was the typical hang in limbo as if it didnt catch, but a reboot of the pi, resolved this for me.
 The "Band Steering" with Spectrum is a real problem
