Cant tell if there is a 32-bit version of 2.1-3.

DigiPi is based on Raspberry Pi OS Trixie/13 32-bit LITE.

This is primarily so we fit in our 512MB memory budget.  Some day if
4Gigs is standard we'll move to 64bit (or when Raspberry Pi stops supporting
32bit, in which case we'll lose FLDigi).

So in a nutshell, Pi Zero W (as opposed to 2W) is a non-starter for DigiPi?

Pi Zero 2 lacks the Wi-Fi capability that's necessary for it to function, so yeah, non-starter.

That's what the "W" stand for -- Wi-Fi.

That's correct.  the "single core" variants are falling from support from Raspberry
Pi OS, and DigiPi as a consequence.  This includes the 2B, ZeroW, 3B (keep in
mind the 3B+ and Zero2W are great choices).

The problem stems from the "neon" instruction set found in multicore broadcom
processors which are not present in the single-core Pi's, many software packages are
compiled with these instructions and programs abort with "invalid instruction."
Historically this impacted direwolf itself, php, and other packages DigiPi leverages.

if it helps,

Got it. I see a 2W in my future but the price jump is higher than expected. My Pi 2's do have wifi and updated just fine when I tried loading PiOS on them.
Maybe ill use them to learn Linux...

If I had to buy a Pi right now for DigiPi, I'd get the 3A+

https://www.adafruit.com/product/4027

Compared to the Zero2W, the 3A+:
  • exists
  • it's only $25
  • full size USB, HDMI ports
  • slightly faster processor
  • same RAM
  • 5G wifi

It's just not as small/efficient.
