Seems like a waste of paperwork.  The Tigers just gave Lee away.

Lee was traded to make room for Kyle Finnegan on the 40 man roster.  So they’re just trying to get something for him because they needed the roster spot…

So I guess you could look at it that Lee was insurance in case they somehow didn’t sign Finnegan. But they did, so there you have it.

The Tigers only officially announced the Anderson signing today despite it being news since last week.  So if Finnegan takes Lee’s former roster spot and Jansen takes the other spot that was open…they still need to make room for Anderson. Someone has to go from the current 40 man roster.

Drew Sommers would seem a candidate to be DFA'd, but he's a lefty so that might save him.

I don't think they'll DFA Dylan Smith either.  They seem to like him.

Maybe one of the "Treis/Treys", Trey Sweeney or Trei Cruz?

I did want to credit Harris for doing the thing that I often criticize him for not doing.  I hate it when he just releases players even though the released player has some value.  It is often done in a similar situation to create a roster opening.  Trading Lee for a prospect, even a marginal one, is better than just letting him go outright.
