The Tigers drafted 21-year-old University of Kansas righty-hitting SS Tyson LeBlanc with their 2nd-round pick (61st overall).
Funny that LeBlanc is just a few months younger than Kevin McGonigle.

The Tigers love to draft shortstops in the early rounds.   I suppose shortstops can always end up at other infield positions.

At least LeBlanc bats righty and isn't another lefty for Hinch to eventually platoon.

From what I read Leblanc may end up at second or third. Offensively he sounds well rounded and does a lot of things well and doesn’t excel is any one skill.

He was the best player (OPS well over 1.000) on a Kansas team that was pretty good last season.

As Michael mentioned, the Tigers gave up their 3rd-round pick this year for signing Framber Valdez.
Their next pick will be 125th overall.

Supposedly has a decent arm.  Given he's 21 and played high-level D1 college baseball, I assume he'll start with Lakeland.
Lakeland already has last year's 1st round pick, Jordan Yost, starting at SS regularly.

The Tigers also had a competitive-balance pick at #61, with which they selected collegiate RHP Evan Dempsey.  He was listed as a two-way player, but the draft tracker lists him just as a pitcher.

Correction: The pick was #69.

At least they got a competitive balance round pick, which makes up for forfeiting the 3rd-round pick.  The Tigers got the competitive balance pick for having a "bottom 10 payroll or market size".  LOL!

Dempsey is 20.  He bats lefty.  It looks like he'll convert to full-time pitching as a pro (we'll see).
Looks more like a potential reliever (95+ mph fastball and high-spin curve/slider).
