Toledo got swept at Lehigh Valley in their opening series.

Notable performances:
Keider Montero started today and tossed 4 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit (a double by former Tigers' SS "prospect" Sergio Alcantara) with 3 Ks and 1 walk.  The Mud Hens ended up losing 8-7 in 10 innings.  Ty Madden relieved Montero and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks in 3 IP.
Brenan Hanifee allowed the walk-off double in the 10th for his 2nd blown save of the series.

Wenceel Perez went 4-13 in the series with a homer.
Max Clark drew 4 walks and had a double and a single in the series for a .429 OBA.  He has 3 stolen bases.

The Mud Hens have 16 players on the injured list, mostly pitchers.

West Michigan opened their season tonight with a 1-0 win at Lake County.  Hayden Minton and 3 relievers combined on the 2-hit shutout.

I notice Roberto Campos is on the WM roster.  Campos was at Erie last year.  It's his 6th year in the system since he was signed by Al Avila as a 16-year-old from Cuba for a $2.85 million bonus.  Good athlete, but he's just never really developed as a hitter.  He'll be 23 in June.  Time is definitely running out.  I hope he invested his bonus wisely.

Erie opens their season on Friday in Erie vs. Richmond.
Lakeland opens their season on Friday at Tampa.

Toledo won 17-7 tonight at Syracuse.  They beat up on hyped Mets' pitching prospect Jonah Tong. Max Clark with 2 more doubles and Wenceel with his 2nd homer of the season plus a double.  Jung and Valencia with 2 hits apiece and 5 RBIs combined.

Top SS prospect Bryce Rainer hit a 477-foot homer tonight for Lakeland in their 2-1 win vs. Daytona Beach.  In the 4th inning he hit a 97-mph first pitch sinker to the moon.

Rainer has had a slow start to the season but this was a monster blast.

Last year's 2nd-round pick, righty Micah Witherspoon, had his 2nd straight good start for Lakeland, allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 4 Ks in 4 IP.

Erie lost 11-6 to Chesapeake.  SS John Peck was 0-5 with 3 Ks, lowering his average to .182.  ;-)

Erie starter, knuckleballer Kenny Serwa, was roughed up for 6 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks in 4 innings.  Serwa got bombed in his previous start.  I guess we won't be seeing his knuckleball in Detroit anytime soon.

I was at the Erie-Baysox game. Serwa gave up six runs, all earned, in 4 innings -- and his ERA actually went DOWN by two-thirds, from 67.50 to 21.21. Serwa had a Jay Sborz/Fritz Fisher-like start in Richmond earlier this season again (something like five or six runs in two-thirds of an inning -- a horrible start).
