The McKinstry obsession by Hinch needs to end. This guy is playing every single day, providing somewhere between mediocre and poor defense at various positions and cannot hit at all. Current offensive stats in 248 PA:

.197 BA
.278 OB
.298 SLG
.576 OPS
43 H, 12 XBH
25 BB, 42 K
60 OPS+

He had a great first half of 2025. Otherwise he has never hit and never had an OPS over .700. He is 31. It is not going to improve.

That’s Hinch’s all star third baseman you’re talking about there :-)

I know I’m a broken record on this but again, I was honestly surprised how quickly they re-signed both him and Vierling in the offseason. It was the first sign Harris wasn’t going to make any real effort to improve the offense. Many of the roster spots were already locks so their spots were places the Tigers could upgrade but they didn’t even try.

We’re lucky McGonigle played his way onto the roster in the spring or it would be the exact hitting roster from last season.

McKinstry gets to play against righties and lefties, but Carpenter and Keith don't.  Annoying.

McKinstry hitting .193 with a .567 OPS and he's an everyday player.  Pathetic.

Javy Baez is reportedly running the bases with no pain so he could be back in August.   At this point I don't care if they jettison McKinstry for Baez when Baez is ready.

This year, I can almost hear A.J. Hinch and Scott Harris said, "We're getting older and we're getting better."

Pretty sad when we're desperate for Javy Baez to come back and play CF.  At least Javy can hit lefties pretty well and is usually pretty good in clutch situations and is a decent baserunner.  We really need to get Outman out of the lineup.  It's not like he's a Gold Glover out there in CF to justify his non-existent bat.

I think we will see Max Clark in CF for the Tigers this season, but probably not until late August or September, especially if the Tigers are out of contention.  Clark will definitely be given every opportunity to win the CF job next spring.
