Last year's #1 pick SS Bryce Rainer suffered a bad arm injury tonight for Lakeland.  He got hurt diving back to 1st base on a pickoff attempt.  He was writhing in pain on the ground holding his arm.  Maybe a separated shoulder or elbow?  I remember a similar thing happened to Colt Keith in the minors where he badly hurt his shoulder diving back to 1st base.  Keith's throwing arm hasn't been the same since then (he was playing 3B regularly back then).

Rainer underwent surgery on his injured right shoulder and will be out for the season.

i thought Colt Keith had shoulder surgery as well when he had a similar injury as Rainer's but Keith did not have surgery.
Keith suffered a torn labrum diving back to 1B on a pickoff attempt, but rehabbed it through physical therapy and had no surgery.

Damn.  Poor kid.

And I guess no trading for Skenes now.

I hope Rainer's throwing arm isn't permanently weakened after the surgery.  He'll be much more valuable if he can stay at SS.
We don't need yet another 2B prospect.
