Flaherty has a 1.90 ERA in his last 5 starts.   He's making $10 million this season, which isn't that high relatively speaking, so his salary might not be an obstacle to trading him at the deadline.

We probably won't get the equivalent of Trey Sweeney and Thayron Liranzo for Flaherty but we might get an A-ball/rookie league lottery ticket for him.

Flaherty’s 2026 salary is actually $20 million. It doubled because he reached his start incentives in 2025.

But of course by the time the trade deadline hits, it probably will be $10 million or less owing because obviously it’s more than halfway through the season.

Ah, got it.  I think it's only a 1-year deal, though, so if somebody trades for him they are just paying him a couple months of salary and he'll be a free agent after the season so they won't owe him anything next year.

Speaking of Thayron Liranzo, he was the only Tigers' prospect invited to the MLB Futures game on July 12, but he just went on the 7-day IL with Erie so he might not make it.  I don't know what the injury is.

The 23-year-old Liranzo is hitting .211/.343/.429 for Erie.  Last year Liranzo hit .208/.308/.351 for Erie.
Liranzo is considered the Tigers' best catching prospect but at this point he doesn't look any better of a hitter than Jake Rogers, if he's lucky.

Not sure why Max Clark isn't getting an invite unless they tend to invite AA and A-ball prospects instead.

Liranzo is the Tigers' top catching prospect unless they still consider Josue Briceno a "catching prospect".  Reports are that Briceno might end up at 1B/DH more than catcher.

Briceno has started at catcher twice for Lakeland this past week since coming off the IL.
Briceno has 3 hits, including a homer, and 3 walks in 10 appearances with Lakeland.
I assume he'll be promoted to Erie later this month.

Assuming the Tigers rotation is relatively healthy in August… And maybe Jobe is on his way back…I think Flaherty is a good trade candidate no matter where the team is in the standings.

Need to give those starts to the younger guys like Jobe, Melton, Montero, etc., and it would be an obvious area of strength for the Tigers to trade from. Of course this leaves out whether Mize or Skubal is still with the team but in some scenario where they are back in the race and they decide to keep those guys, I’d still trade Flaherty.
