I watched Greene's at-bats last night. Had bad luck in his first AB when he scorched a 104-mph shot 381 feet to CF that Buxton ran down. It was a really nice swing from Riley. He struck out 3 straight times after that before drawing a walk in the 9th with
2 outs.
In the 3rd inning he took a called 3rd strike on a 3-2 pitch on a splitter that just caught the lower inside of the plate. Great pitch from Taj Bradley.
In the 6th, he struck out swinging on a 1-2 pitch splitter low and away. That was a poor at-bat.
In the 8th, Greene struck out swinging on a 3-2 count on a sweeper off the outside of the plate by lefty Taylor Rogers. Good, patient at-bat but he got fooled on the 3-2 sweeper from the lefty. Tough pitch for a lefty hitter.
In the 9th, Greene walked on a 3-2 pitch in a great at-bat. He laid off a high-and-away cutter from righty Justin Topa on the 3-2 pitch to draw the walk to put 2 runners on base for Dingler, who unfortunately grounded out to end the game.
Greene was 0-4 but in 4 of his 5 plate appearances he had good at-bats and is showing signs of trying to be more patient.
Greene's stats are terrible right now, but I think his change in approach should start to show dividends at some point. We hope anyway!
