Let’s make it half a dozen Tiger all-stars!  Mize is going to replace someone who is injured. Not sure who that is yet…

This is great news, but I too couldn't find any specifics about it. Also, I've only seen it reported by what I would call second and third tier sources (present company excluded, Roger ;)

One has to wonder if another AL hitter has to pull out due to injury if Tork would be next in line. :)

Looks like it's Emily Waldon, a Tigers writer for Baseball America, who broke the news, citing a "source" in a tweet:


I haven't seen any confirmation or official sourcing, either. Chris McCoskey at The Detroit News at least ID'd the source as someone who's not authorized to speak publicly about the decision. That probably means it's AJ Hinch, Scott Harris or Mize.


As a journalist, this is not the kind of thing that is important enough to report with an unnamed source. You can only look stupid if you're wrong, if you're wrong people will criticize you for getting Mize's hopes up, and no one will care if you were first except other beat writers if you're right.

Casey Mize has been added to the American League All-Star team

He replaces Garrett Crochet on the AL's active roster

I'd rather Skubal and Mize skip the game.  They need a rest.
The entire Tigers' team seems a bit tired right now.
