McGonigle

McGonigle is blowing up in the exhibition today, with a home run off Severino, a single and a walk in three tries.  It’s going to be hard to leave him off the team if he keeps hitting like this in spring training.  I’m not sure that’s good thing, since a lot spring stats are really meaningless.  I’d rather he proved himself in AAA first.  But, baseball people don’t think like that.

Depends on what the Tigers' plans are for SS and 3B to start the season.  Keith seems slated to be the starting 3B (and he and McGonigle both bat lefty).  McGonigle isn't going to play 2B with Torres there.  I guess it's a choice between Baez/McKinstry at SS or McGonigle/Baez at SS, plus McGonigle could play some occasional DH.

I suppose if Meadows doesn't make the opening day roster in CF then Baez will be playing a lot of CF, which would open up SS for McGonigle.

Meadows is not exactly making the case to get the starting job in CF or even a roster spot at all.  He’s hitting .059 with a .170 OPS.  He has a single and a walk in 18 PA’s so far.

Meadows will end up in Toledo with our All-Star center fielder Baez taking over and McGonigle now the starting SS.

Hinch has other CF options too like Vierling and Perez.

I could see Baez playing SS when there’s a LH on the mound and CF against RH’s.

I don't know whey they don't try Riley Greene in CF anymore?  Is he really that bad?  Are they worried he'll get injured playing in CF?  I don't know why he would be anymore injury prone in CF than LF.

Management seems to love Vierling.  For what it’s worth, he’s hitting .533 with a 1.521 OPS this spring in 17 PA’s :-)
