Good God, I yearn for the Dombrowski era. Harris's schtick is so tired.

Wasn't paying attention and only sent this to Peter originally.

Wenceel Perez has been moved to the 60 day IL to make room on the 40 man roster. That has to 7 or 8 guys on the 60 day now.

More Harris dumpster diving.  Fetter could help some of these guys in the past but the magic seems gone now.

It’s funny how certain player characteristics get so overvalued.  Diaz has been a pro for 8 seasons (mostly in the minors), and he’s never had a season ERA below 4.10.  But, because he strikes out 11 men per 9 innings, he keeps getting jobs.  Strikeouts are really a fetish right now.

To support Michael's point, look at Keider Montero.  He doesn't have a high strikeout rate but he's been very effective.  He keeps the ball in the ballpark, doesn't walk many hitters, and induces weak contact.  That's what you want from a pitcher.

I'll admit I'm biased toward pitchers with high K rates, especially relievers (because I like relievers who miss bats rather than give up a lot of contact), but Michael is right, there are a lot of below-average pitchers with high K rates out there (e.g., Flaherty) who keep getting chances.
