Prior to the season, if you had told me that Colt Keith’s batting average would improve by 60 points, but his OPS would decline, I would have been incredulous. It’s shocking, unless you just dismiss it as a small sample size fluke.  I’m keen to see how this plays out.

Keith was 0-3 today so his average dropped to .295 and his OPS is now .693.  Keith reportedly has been dealing with a sore wrist recently.  Sigh.

I think the negative of these long term contracts when a player is super young is they feel enormous pressure constantly. It’s a completely different era where every diehard fan, podcaster, journalist, etc. is aware of the contract and aware of the minutia of every single thing you do at the plate on a daily basis. It’s millions of dollars and there’s so much pressure.

I don’t know how many people could handle random people (yet pretty knowledgable at times) constantly attacking you for not producing. Sometimes it’s better to be under the radar with a one year deal :-)
