Dear mine action colleagues,

I wanted to let you know that after more than a decade of working on it, my book on mines, cluster munitions and mine action has finally been released! Thank you so very much to so many of you in the demining network for all your help over the years, including making me feel at home in the mine action community!

The book is titled Political Minefields: The Struggle Against Automated Killing – here is a blurb:

Thousands of people around the world are maimed and killed by landmines and unexploded ammunition every year. In this travelogue through Iraq, Laos, Cambodia, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Sudan, South Sudan and New York City, the author searches for solutions to the landmine crisis and emerging autonomous weapons. He tells stories of the deminers, paramilitaries, journalists, mercenaries, diplomats, aid workers, and campaigners in and among the minefields. It is a must-read for those working to alleviate the devastation of war. Foreword by 1997 Nobel Peace Prize Co-Laureate Jody Williams.

The book argues strongly that landmines are inhumane and indiscriminate weapons and includes detailed histories of mine action programs in several mine-affected countries.

It is available from: https://www.bloomsbury.com/us/political-minefields-9781780761596/ I have negotiated a 35% “deminers and mine action professionals discount” if you order directly from the website with the code GLR TW5

Please spread the word to people who might be interested and leave a review on Amazon if you like it! Here are a couple tweets about the book, please feel free to retweet!

Matthew
Good for you, anyone who gets as far as getting a book published has worked hard. Well done.
I just tried to order but the site will not accept a non US address. I want it to be shipped to me in the UK. (I could use a US address in Michigan but then they would have to send it to me). I have sent Bloomsbury an email. So I will 'watch this space'. Their London branch does not recognise the title.
Regards William Waddilove

The publisher only seems to post to the US.
