Front end development?

Hey all,

Only some may remember me by name on here but I'm a former student of Timo and skulked around the repo a few years back. Since then I've been working as a software engineer and I've been looking for a fun little side project to keep my finite element skills at least somewhat honed (since we don't use FEM at all at work 🤮).

I was curious if deal.II had any front end/interactive software counterparts. A lot of what I've been doing at work involves 3D scene interactions and I think there's a fun project to be had somewhere in creating a user interface for finite element solvers with deal.II in the back-end.

This would be entirely separate from the deal.II repo and I wouldn't expect it to get much use, but sounded like fun for me.

Hello Sean, 

I am not aware of any GUI counterparts for deal.ii. I am aware of Peacock which is a Python-based GUI for MOOSE. Although I believe, it would be phased out soon.

The frontend project definitely sounds fun, and I would like to participate in it if you are open to it.

I appreciate the encouragement! Let me get started on some sort of initial release plan and connections and then maybe I'll reach out!

Dear Sean, dear Raghunandan,

within the dealii-X project (www.dealii-x.eu), we plan to create a front-end / back-end interface for deal.II, and for applications based on deal.II.

We are currently working on this with a company called “Dualistic”. The platform is open source, and will be released as such. Maybe we could coordinate, instead of duplicating efforts?
