Dear all,
Our Computational Geodynamics group at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany is looking for a 9-month postdoctoral researcher. The project aims to improve the deal.II-based and widely used research software ASPECT — The Advanced Solver for Planetary Evolution, Convection, and Tectonics (https://aspect.geodynamics.org/) — with regard to its software development practices and solvers. In particular, we want to develop prototype GPU Stokes solvers using deal.II’s PortableMatrixFree framework, Trilinos’s Tpetra framework, or PETSc/Hypre, with the goal of developing them into full-fledged ASPECT solvers over the next few years.
We are aware that nine months is a short time, so we are flexible regarding remote work (within Germany) and top-ups or extensions of PhD projects, as long as the candidate can meaningfully contribute to the project. The ideal start date is June 1.
If you are interested and have experience with deal.II, large-scale iterative linear solvers and preconditioners, and (ideally) GPU computing, please contact me informally at rgassmoeller at geomar.de for more details about the position.
Best,
Rene
