EA licenses?

Hi all,

 

A proposal Darren, Dan and I discussed at the documentation sub-group meeting earlier today was to ask Jared if it would be possible for the Alliance to cover a set of EA licenses for those in the CDI group that is working on modeling.

We were thinking of bringing this up at the CDI meeting today, but this meeting ended before we got so far.

 

I therefore ask you by email:

• Do you think this is a good idea?
• And if there is agreement on that, would you need a license covered by the Alliance if this would be possible?

 

Flavio, what is the current version of EA you currently use for the modeling btw?

As we talked about in the Documentation Subgroup meeting, I will benefit if DDI supplies EA licenses. That means I think this is a good idea. 😉

I currently am using version 17.1 (I just updated for my new computer). Not sure what other people have. This was covered by CODATA, so I would not need help in that regard. Making sure we have licenses for the core modelling team makes lots of sense to me, especially for Achim who is retired and does not have institutional support through GESIS any more. I would like to see not just the members of the core modelling team but also those involved in model-driven development (i.e., Deirdre) to have access to the tools.

Also - if it makes a difference - Sparx Systems has a "floating license" option which is only 320.00 USD per license. This is a bit more expensive than a personal copy ($245.00) but is not extortionate as these things go. I don't think we have used any features which require having the more expensive versions.

Hi Hilde and all: I’ve always had my own academic license, it’s less expensive though (around $100). I have version 16, but I plan to move to 17 soon.

5 floating licences would seem to be the most cost-effective way of doing this – I don’t need one personally btw.

I’ll liaise with Hilde to pitch this to EB.
