Is anyone aware of any feature within DCM4CHEE that is triggered when a study has a successfully made it to the archive?  I appreciate that some PACS systems (if DCM4CHEE resides as an archive behind such entity) will submit a Storage Commit which DCM4CHEE can respond to, but in this case, or any other case when a commit isn't requested, there doesn't appear to be a mechanism for DCM4CHEE to know if all the study's instances have been received.

I appreciate that this is one of Achilles heels of DICOM and most providers either rely on
  1. a storage commit being used or
  2. a simple time out
to acknowledge that no further information will be forthcoming for this particular study.

Is DCM4CHEE any different?  Is there a definitive way of ensuring that a study now resides on the archive?

My end goal here is to be able to provide some sort of notification to (for example) an administrator in the form of either an email, audit report or something similar as well as initiate some code that I will be writing to deal with that (recently received) study.

If there's nothing currently available then I have an inkling of an idea that I will follow up with to provide this level of notification, but there's no point in re-inventing the wheel...

Thoughts / comments?

DCM4CHEE has a built-in MPPS Emulator that can be used to generate notifications. MPPS can be used directly or you can feed to the MPPS2ORM service to convert to HL7 messages.

fleetwoodfc,
I'm just about to start testing this - the MPPS side of things is new to me, so am I correct in assuming that if I configure DCM4CHEE's MPPS SCP, I should be able to perform a (DICOM query?) against that MPPS SCP as an SCU and get results back?  Is that how (50,000' view) things are likely to work?

Hello,

The Instance Availability notification feature is implemented in the latest version of archive. You can refer - https://github.com/dcm4che/dcm4chee-arc-light/wiki/How-to-configure-Instance-Availability-Notification

For some, I would imagine that the arc-light version is still too "new" for putting into production - unless of course, someone can post otherwise - AFAIK, it's still deemed to be a development version?

I've done considerable research and testing on this subject and the closest that I've come up with is to check the status of each study's series and when all series are stored (with no updates), their status changes from the default value of "1" to "0" (as per Gunter's last comment in this post).

We use dcm4chee-arc-light in production since January. There are also installations with > 100.000 studies per month!
