Press Assistant

Data for Progress is hiring a full-time Press Assistant to help expand our mission of empowering movements using data. Our Press Assistant will report to the Communications Director to develop and disseminate Data for Progress research and policy proposals into the public conversation. 

This is a writing intensive position with a focus on strong digital media skills. Responsibilities will include collecting daily press clips, generating and posting social media content, drafting and editing press releases, and more.

Ideal candidates have strong writing skills, a demonstrated passion for digital and social media, are detail-oriented, and have the ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

We’re looking for someone with these skills and experiences (but you don’t need to have all of them):

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills 

  • Strong writing and proofreading skills

  • A sharp eye for detail

  • Interest in progressive politics and causes

  • Strong and self-directed project management and ability to juggle multiple priorities at a time

  • Ideal candidates will have previous experience in politics or communications

As our Press Assistant, you will:

  • Manage writing and editing of public and private-facing policy research products, including op-eds, memos, policy briefs, white papers, blogs and other content to drive coverage and create political alignment of key political, movement and media stakeholders 

  • Collect daily press clips, generate and post social media content, and draft and edit press releases

  • Collaborate with diverse team members and stakeholders, often in rapid response scenarios and on tight deadlines

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers 15 days paid vacation, paid sick and mental health days, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and matching 401k, and a $50,000 annual salary.

This role is full-time and fully remote with the option for DC-based staff to work in person.
