Gates at Cardozo are locked. I’ll head to Garrison.

All, after having to relocate on the fly this morning from Cardozo to Garrison, I'd like to propose two things to the group.  First, since it's been 50/50 that Cardozo is open in the summer, i think we should just permanently relocate when school is out to save playing time.  Second, Garrison's field condition is very unsafe and I don't want anyone to get injured playing pickup.  I think we should try and find a new location for the summer.  I put together a map of potential locations in DC that i would be willing to drive to, not knowing where everyone else is coming from.  I don't know if these are all available for morning activities so hopefully people can weigh in with any insights or other locations I didn't think of.

I walked past Marie Reed yesterday, and it's closed for field repairs. It looks like they might be replacing the turf.

Walter Pierce is supposed to be locked in the morning, though it's 50/50 that the gate is open. Climbing the fence is a possibility.

I think Bell-Columbia Heights is generally closed. There's a softball field across the street that used to have a hole in the fence. I don't know if that's been repaired.

Roosevelt has been difficult to play on for another pickup group and for non-permitted groups. However, Roosevelt's baseball's outfield could be an option. I see people bring their dogs there during the day time.

I don’t think we should move from Garrison. The field is always open, always available, and more than playable—especially compared to a lot of other fields around the city. From my perspective, it’s one of the more reliable options we have.

I also think it’s important we keep games within the same general geographic area. That’s been a consistent principle since I helped found the group, I’d really like to see us stick to that.

I live near Bundy field and can tell you that the field is decent and I’ve never seen it locked before and now that schools out I never see people using it in the morning. It’s an 80 yard field. On occasion homeless people will be sleeping on the sideline early in the morning.

I believe that the Dunbar field is pretty much always locked and it’s actually been a point of contention in the neighborhood because they are supposed to open the track up but never do. The field at Banneker high school is also decent but I’m not sure if it’s locked in the mornings in the  summer.

I agree the general geographic area is important. But to Andy's point, there is an ankle-breaking sized hole past the penalty box (closer to mid-field). Garrison could work if we set up the field diagonally, starting from the baseball diamond to the other side of the soccer field. Only really good for 3v3 though but 4s could work.

Why don’t we try Bundy on Thursday? It’s only a few blocks from garrison so if it doesn’t work we can revert back to old reliable.

Sorry, I had to drop to a no for Thursday, so we're only at 5. That could change again, but it's unlikely.

Assuming we get numbers, let's stick to Cardozo, with Garrison as backup for this week.  The vague email I got from Cardozo folks suggested that the field usually would be open.  Check emails though.

Thanks so much to Andy for his field map.  I think it may be worth trying Bundy if Cardozo is not consistently open.

In any event, the weather should be nice tomorrow!

It looks like we're getting lucky with the weather on Friday morning (as of now). A Friday morning game would be great before it heats back up again! Need 3 more to get a game going.
