Feel free to forward this email and/or the datasheet to family, friends and groups who may be interested.

Similar to Alonso’s question, I was also going to ask, would you like this promoted on social media channels? If so, I am happy to share with our network, I would just need a webpage to direct people to and preferably some kind of image to promote it (but not necessary).

That would make it easier for us to list on the Capital Nature calendar as well. My sense from the originating email is that this is a fairly low tech project sent among the ANS community. Am adding Diane Lill and Serenella Linares to the conversation. If they have a social media post we can share, that would be ideal. Bridget perhaps you might be willing to create one as backup if that would delay promorion?

I love Cricket Crawl and would be happy to promote if we have something to tag to - a website or a social media event.

HI All - Passing on this social media image I created for the Cricket Crawl this Friday. Please share in your networks and on your channels.

Sample post:

Listen to the sounds of summer! Help researchers by collecting data in your own backyard!

If you live in the DC or Baltimore area, head outside this Friday 8/21 after 8:15pm and listen for crickets.

Visit https://www.discoverlife.org/cricket/DC/ for tips on identifying 6 common species and the data form to report your findings. Fun for the whole family!

Note: Even if you don't live in the area, you can still learn all the sounds of species and practice listening wherever you are! Check out this site: https://songsofinsects.com/

Sounds like fun, but the Instructions page is "Not found".  Can someone correct the link and let us know when it's available.

I think the instructions are to listen for five minutes (on Friday Aug 21 after 8:15 when the temp is above 60 degrees F).  But the Data sheet doesn't specify five minutes.

Thanks.

Hi All - looks like the capitalization of DC is important. I tried the shorter official url without the caps and it did not work.

This one that Tammy suggests also works with the caps

I noticed that too, Stella.

With broken links on their website and with the Facebook page not being up to date, I don’t feel comfortable sharing this on TNC’s channel. If the organization can update the website and Facebook page by Friday that is great, but otherwise, I feel it is too confusing.

That is just my two cents.

Makes sense Bridget. Ultimately the organizers need to present a project that is accessible. A lot has changed since Cricket Crawl got started and the CNC sets a high bar for access, technology etc.

An interesting topic to explore through the regional cot sci network.

But let's not let a link blooper keep us from listening to those crickets!

Stella
