Hello everyone,

First, I want to thank you all for your ongoing support.

I'm hoping you can help me with a situation regarding the migration of our Dataverse instance to Datacite.

Our organization has been accepted into Datacite, and we are now in the process of migrating our information using our new credentials. Currently, we have a Dataverse instance using a "Fake" PID, but we want to transition to our Datacite credentials. I have successfully implemented Dataverse locally using the factory test credentials without any issues.

We are aware that Dataverse version 6.2 allows the configuration of different PID providers. Given this functionality, we have a few questions:

  1. Is it possible to migrate the Datasets we created using fake DOIs to real ones?
  2. If migration is not possible, what steps would you recommend? We have automated the creation of Datasets, but we don't want to delete our current database.

Additionally, we have automated the creation of Datasets, so it's not necessary to modify the existing datasets, but we would like to avoid deleting the entire database.

We're looking for the most efficient way to handle this transition while preserving our existing data.

Thank you in advance for your assistance. We greatly appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Hi Matías,

If you're ok with not preserving the versions of the datasets (the latest version becomes version 1, I mean), the easiest thing might be to:

- download the old dataset as JSON
- create a new dataset based on the JSON using the API*
- re-upload the files
- publish

Others might suggest better and fancier solutions. :)

I hope this helps!
