Configurable notifications?

Hi group,

Is there a way to configure the amount of notifications that a user receives, especially through e-mail? We have customers who do bulk deposits through the API and would like to mute the notification e-mails?

Any existing functionality that coudl be helpful? If there is no existing feature, is there an issue for adding it?

There do seem to be some existing issues about too many notifications:

I *think* #7492 is pretty close to what you're asking for so please feel free to leave a comment there. You are also very welcome to open a fresh issue. #1336 is sort of an umbrella issue to revisit notifications in general.

Hello there,

We've also received feedback that the number of notifications is quite high for Dataverse collection admins, especially after recently upgrading and turning on the dataset created notification. While some users find it very helpful, others are inundated with emails/UI notifications.

Following up on this thread, it would be really useful if users would be able to configure the type of notifications (e.g., email, UI), and which notifications to receive (e.g., submit for review, dataset created, restricted file access, etc).

Would it be worthwhile opening up another issue to address this?

Before I open a new thread:

Currently, there don't seem to be any notifications when a user is added to a user group, is that correct? We would like to do all our permissions management via user groups and those notifications would be helpful (corresponding to the "You have been granted the ... permission" notifications).

That's right, as far as I have experienced and tested this. The granted permission message is only sent if you define/change the group access after you have added members to the group.

If we introduce notification when user are added to a group, we should make it mutable, because in some cases we might not want the user(s) being informed.

Hmm, when I look at the list at https://guides.dataverse.org/en/6.2/admin/user-administration.html#letting-users-manage-notifications I see "Role is assigned" but nothing about groups.

I just looked through https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues but I don't see anyone asking for a notification for when people are added to a group. Please feel free to create one.

Note that some groups like shibboleth, email, and IP are maintained passively. I assume notifications wouldn't be sent for them.
