Hello,

We have noticed some changes in the automatic notifications sent from our Dataverse (version 6.4) .

Recently, we created a user group with the “Curator” role to manage data curation tasks. Users in this group have started receiving notifications that were previously sent only to the administrator and repository administrator.

For example, they now get alerts about file uploads (with formats that were not notified before) and other types of actions. We have also observed that in some cases, expected notifications (such as dataset return for curation) are not received, while other new notifications are arriving.

We have verified that the configured email address is correct and that permissions are assigned to the  group with the “Curator” role. Group members inherit these permissions.

How are notifications managed for user groups with the “Curator” role?

Hello,

To see whether Dataverse sent e-mail notifications you think you should've received, you may look in your system's local mail log (likely /var/log/maillog) or follow up with your campus mail administrators. There is also an API endpoint for dumping all notifications per user: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/6.4/api/native-api.html#notifications

Dataverse's notification behavior is loosely described on https://guides.dataverse.org/en/6.4/user/account.html but I'll defer to someone else on how they're managed per role.

Thank you,
Don
