At #dataverse2023 I missed Thomas van Erven's demo on Semantic Enrichment using Dockerized Services but he has kindly agreed to show it off during tomorrow's community call!

Information on how to join is in the usual place: https://dataverse.org/community-calls

Thanks!

Phil

Hi Phil and all,

We're inviting all interested parties to join the call as this presentation can help anyone to deploy and run Dataverse basically on any cloud within couple of minutes, with all settings you need to run production ready Dataverse as a service (we call it "Archive in a box"). Thomas did some outstanding work there and shared everything in GitHub during the #dataverse2023 community meeting, it's easy to use and you're more than welcome to try it now: https://github.com/gdcc/infra-templates

Another important thing which will be showcased is Semantic Enrichment of datasets, this work was led by me and started a long time ago in EU funded SSHOC project (2019-2022) when with the great help of Jim Myers and IQSS team we did managed to integrate external controlled vocabularies support as plugin solution, and opened Dataverse gates for Semantic Web and Linked Data. You can read more https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8133723 or watch the presentation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw_EkE9WLjc.

External CV support and Dockerized "Archive in a box" gave us amazing possibilities to explore further the decentralisation of data infrastructure experiment with semantic enrichment of metadata resulting in the building of local and global knowledge graphs where all metadata is interlinked and available through semantic query languages such as SPARQL. We can do a lot of stuff already such as multilingual search (for example, metadata in Dutch or Chinese can be found with queries in English) and Semantic Search on relevant/related concepts - geospatial search is good use case here as you can search on city and find datasets on country.
I have changed the initial vision and started to dream about building OS for Open Science with reuse and integration of available data services, and using Dataverse for other kind of materials such as Web pages, audio, video etc, and we're definitely getting somewhere: https://zenodo.org/record/8134041.

So, join today even if you don't have Dataverse instance, it will be not boring. ;)

Cheers,
Slava
