Hello everyone,
If I have a dataset that was drafted with a fake DOI (FK2), and now I have set up everything to have a real DOI, can I change the fake DOI of that dataset before publishing it?

Or, if I publish it now, will the DOI be automatically converted to a real DataCite DOI?

Thanks,
Alfredo

Alfredo,

There is no automated conversion. I think you should be able to edit in the database (perhaps creating the DOI via Fabrica to start so you know you have a valid one). Once you’ve done that, publishing should update/make the real DOI findable. There are API calls to do some management of PIDs – once you’ve edited the DOI, you could try doing a GET to make sure things are OK before you publish.

FWIW: You would probably have problems if you have changed the server PID provider configuration to remove the FAKE provider and then added a real one (since the fake DOI wouldn’t be recognized any more), so you may want to keep the FAKE provider (and have a real provider configured) until you update the DOI.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Jim, too tricky and too risky.
I prefer to reload the datasets.

Alfredo
