possible to change the identifier

Apologies in advance for cross-posting.

One of the patrons wants to change their dataverse identifier.   It's a health related project, originally 'covidbehindbars'.  They wanted to take out the 'covid'.

My concert is how that would affect the the existing files.   I don't know how that works internally.

Hi Jamie,

Changing the identifier of a dataverse shouldn't affect the files in it.

Like if I changed "testing1" in https://demo.dataverse.org/dataverse/testing1 to "testing2", that won't change the IDs of the files in the collection.

As far as I know, the only drawback to changing the identifier of a dataverse is that anyone who tried to use the URL that has the old identifier will get an error page.

The issue " only drawback to changing the identifier of a dataverse is that anyone who tried to use the URL that has the old identifier will get an error page."  would be something for the patron to consider before trying this.
