Hi everyone!

Is there any way to include both the author's ORCID and their institution's ROR in the metadata?

With the way the metadata is currently structured, authors have to choose only one of the two identifiers. We require ORCID, but we'd also like the institution's ROR to be included.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to handle this?

Thanks!

I've kind of solved that problem for another instance, though through a different road.

First - word to the wise. There are two fields for the author field. I find it's best to keep them separated as ROR and ORCID are different platforms. What is on ORCID may not represent ROR, and vice versa. The last I wanted is a stubborn field that automagically tries to link ROR to what's on someone's ORCID, which they may or may not have updated. You run into interesting problems like stuff on ORCID not reflecting reality, or missing data.. a trap best avoided in my mind.

The new ORCID API has a field called "employment" which you can check for. It's relatively trivial to include this information via the the external-vocab-support repository (https://github.com/gdcc/dataverse-external-vocab-support)  which I'm assuming is the mechanism you're using as well. I found that I could add the lowest entry of that 'employment' list (index -1) to the javascript in Dataverse, which makes it easier to find the right person.

Arguably, you could feed that same retrieved data into ROR and fill the box with the top result (small bit of coding required), but your mileage may vary as described above.

Hi Marina and Thomas,

Yes, it's possible. Attached is a screenshot from the community call* we had a couple hours ago. Here's the recording: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1f76XdCOByR5Kx335SwKCOMDYMkXkQYLU/view?usp=sharing

I'd recommend skipping ahead to 20 minutes in when Jim Myers starts talking about ORCID and ROR.

Please let us know if it's making sense! I imagine Jim can reply with any questions your or others may have. There's a lot going on behind the scenes!

Thanks,

Phil

Thank you very much!

And great community call! The timing was really spot-on between my question and what was discussed in the meeting. Really appreciate the recording.
