previewer for excel spreadsheets

Looks like https://github.com/GlobalDataverseCommunityConsortium/dataverse-previewers/blob/master/previewers/SpreadsheetPreview.html is for .csv and .tsv . Is there a good way to preview excel files in dataverse?

That spreadsheet previewer works for more than just .csv and .tsv. It works for any tabular file that has successfully gone through what we call "ingest". If you look at https://guides.dataverse.org/en/5.8/user/tabulardataingest/supportedformats.html you'll see that Excel is supported, as well as CVS, TSV, Stata, RData, and SPSS.

That is to say, one way to solve your problem may be to make (hopefully small) modifications to your Excel file until you get a successful ingest. Some day we'd like to write some documentation about this: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/7452

If your Excel file can be shared and you're having trouble getting it go to through ingest, you could email it to sup...@dataverse.org or attach it to a new issue at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues

All that said about ingest, I can imagine a preview that works specifically with Excel files. I believe modern Excel files are just XML files and there's probably some open source code out there to re-use in a new previewer. If this is of interest to you, I'd suggest opening an issue at https://github.com/GlobalDataverseCommunityConsortium/dataverse-previewers/issues
