Good morning!

We'd like to change from Handle to DOI in our Dataverse (the production one).
(i) Is it possible?
(ii) if yes, do you know what will happen with the publications that already have Handle ID ?

Best,
Alexandre

Hi Alexandre,

Yes, it's possible. Harvard Dataverse did just this a while ago. Datasets that once had Handles now have that Handle in the alternativepersistentidentifier* table. If someone lands on the dataset page with the old Handle in the URL, they will see a message saying they should use the DOI version instead.

I hope this helps,

Phil

Oh interesting! Phil could you write more about what you mean by folks seeing a message saying they should use the DOI version instead? When we visit https://hdl.handle.net/1902.1/HIJLKAJELN, is the citation in the blue citation box letting folks know that they should use the DOI?

The DOI for that dataset is doi:10.7910/DVN/9L6A8X. Note that there's a metadata field called "Previous Dataset Persistent ID" which is populated by the Handle.

There's no message at the top of the dataset though. Maybe I dreamt it!
