Everyone,

We are extremely excited to announce that the Global Dataverse Community Consortium (GDCC) has contracted with James Myers to become our Senior Developer and Architect for GDCC and community contributions.

In this role, Jim will work very closely with the  Dataverse development and UX/UI team at Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) and with the Dataverse community to help define community priorities and provide software and standards guidance, as well as contribute to the implementation of key components. Jim will be participating in Dataverse collaboration planning and has already begun work on some initial priorities.

Please join us in welcoming Jim into this new position.

Thanks to all our members who made this possible.

Thanks

Great news! Is there a plan for how GDCC is going to decide on what issues we want to prioritize?
Best, Philipp

We are working on that process now and any suggestions would be great. We are initially thinking about starting with an ideas page where the community can help form the issues. Probably a google doc that eventually triggers issues in github but we are working on that now

Maybe a project on https://github.com/orgs/IQSS/projects could also be part of the solution?

All the best!
Jonas

The software used for https://datacite.org/roadmap.html looked promising, too.

First of all, congrats to Jim! He's contributed so much already that I can't wait to see what's next! The big data stuff is looking good!

I like Jonas's idea of a project board on GitHub. The number of installations of Dataverse who have set up project boards continues to grow:

As a reminder, I wrote a little Python script to aggregate issues across these boards. It needs a little work (and some consensus on column names within the boards as Steve McEachern suggested makes a lot of sense) but it can be found linked from this "boards for prioritizing issues (for each installation of Dataverse)" thread: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/z8ugn2KzNSc/3xf4TXIqCQAJ

Thanks,

Phil

p.s. Regardless of what the GDCC does, all installations are still welcome to create boards like the ones above. (I mentioned this crazy idea to our director Gary King recently and he liked it.) Here's where I helped ADA Dataverse through the process: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/6221
