Hi all,

At KU Leuven, we just received some great news from the FAIR-IMPACT project. We’ve been selected as one of 15 teams for the “Enabling FAIR Signposting and RO-Crate forcontent/metadata discovery and consumption” support action. After applying for it in June as suggested by Philipp Conzett (thanks Philipp :) ).

We’re hoping to do some work on improving and expanding the integration of RO-Crate with Dataverse. Our first job will be to figure out what is possible (cf. Issue #8688), but hopefully for this short project, we’ll be able to get started on a useful addition to the Dataverse project. We’ll keep you posted if anything is finished or when we want or might need some input on what the needs/wants are of the community.

If you have any input already, you can leave it here or add on to the Issue in Github as more input and ideas are always welcome.

Kind regards,

KU Leuven RDR Team (Kris, Eryk, Özgür and Dieuwertje)

Hi fríends, for We test DOI from DataCite but We see It is too expensive, almost $3000/year(member $500+$2000 consorcio + $0.8/DOI aprox $500 for us). We have a DOI from CrossRef useded in Journals server, $500/year member and only $1 by DOI publication. Can we use CrossRef DOI in Dataverse server?, What are parameters API rest and MDS api?

Hi Marco,

Another new option as of Dataverse 5.14 is PermaLinks which don't involve a third party at all: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/5.14/installation/config.html#configuring-your-dataverse-installation-for-permalinks

There has been interest in CrossRef as a DOI provider. Please feel free to leave a comment at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/8581

I hope this helps,

Phil

p.s. I'm not 100% clear on if your DataCite numbers already include the discount from joining the GDCC. I assume so. If not, the DataCite info is here: https://dataversecommunity.global/services

You might also be interested in getting DataCite DOIs via GDCC membership. From the slides presented at the 2023 Community meeting, it looks like that would mean a $550 membership fee and $1200 for up to 2000 DOIs per year. Not as cheap as CrossRef would be, but less than going to DataCite directly.

W.r.t. the Rest and MDS settings: Those are the URLs for the two DataCite API endpoints. We call several specific endpoints withing those two DataCite APIs. I haven’t looked at the CrossRef API but unless it is the same as DataCite’s, supporting CrossRef will mean adapting the existing code to call the equivalent API calls they have.

Hi,

There was this thread some time ago discussing installation with CrossRef. See below.
And as already mentioned, there are cheaper solutions with handles. For example, we use B2HANDLE services that cost <1000 EUR.

Hi,

We use Crossref to register our DOIs. To achieve this we wrote a simple Python daemon to register newly published datasets. I can share the code if you are interested.

Greetings,

We're setting up our university research data repository using Dataverse, but stuck at the DOI configuration. The manual only mentioned about DataCite by we already have Crossref subscription for our university.

May I know whether there is a workaround to allow DOI registration via Crossref?

I know there was a discussion three years ago at https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/B7Y3_pEj_kY/m/im8i-fPbCwAJ but just wondering whether any recent upgrades/patches can make it possible now.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

regards,
chee sun
