Sometime seagate heads appear to be a good match but dont work.
If the patient wont initialize enough to read the preamp
then I rely on
model #
internal sticker
first 3 letters of the serial number
sometimes this still doesnt work.
So before I swap I test the donor candidate by attaching the patients board and testing spinup.
I listen to how the heads behave.
If its a mismatch
then the heads do long sweeps from inner to outer inner to outer
without stops in between.
If its a match then the heads make stops and recalibrating noises.
Since the SA doesnt match then its not going to be readable.
My question is there a chance that this can corrupt the patients ROM?
Once I hear it making recalibrating noises I usually power off - so that cant happen.
but on a recent drive it surprised me by getting DRD DSC and stopping like it was ready with 0 MB
I have a st2000lm rosewood a5 that was reading great on 3 out of 4 heads.
But now it just spins up and sits no clicking nothing...
with these messages
can anybody decode this ?
