Cut off or bend in Toshiba MK scratched?

Hello, friends.

I have a question regarding a specific case, as I have never performed this procedure on this particular Toshiba drive family.

I am currently working on a Toshiba MK5059GSXP. After inspection, I confirmed that three of the four surfaces (0, 2, and 3) appear to be completely undamaged, while surface 1 is severely scratched.

I have already cleaned and decontaminated the drive and replaced the recirculation filter, which also had a considerable accumulation of particles. I would now like to attempt at least a partial recovery from the unaffected surfaces.

My question is: for this specific Toshiba family, which approach is usually more reliable?

Would it be better to physically bend or offset the corresponding head suspension so that the damaged head can no longer touch the platter surface, or is it generally safer and more effective to remove or cut off that head entirely?

I would especially appreciate feedback from anyone who has worked with this same Toshiba model or family and has experience with this type of procedure.

I worked in these models according to my research head cut is not working in this case. I think you must try head lifting in it. hdd only works till head is connected to proper circuit but physically head cut makes drive busy for very long

• Clean and fully decontaminate the HDA.
• Disable the damaged head (removal is generally more reliable than bending).
• Configure the head map to skip the failed head.
• Image the healthy heads/surfaces first.
• Reassess whether the damaged surface is worth attempting afterward.
