Good evening. I received an Amazon Kids Fire Tablet the other day. It has some videos and pictures under a "kids" profile that the customer wants back. It also has a microSD card which was apparently configured as an extension of the onboard memory. When I hook the tablet up as an external drive and enable File Transfer it shows that there is 70.1GB free of 119GB. This appears to be only the microSD card. When I click on the drive I get a bunch of promising folders (DCIM, Pictures, Movies, etc.) but the total in all of these folders is under 1MB. Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Has it been factory reset?

No, I can see all of the pictures and videos. They just don't seem to want to present themselves when I hook it up as an external device. I also imaged the microSD card but it gives no folder structure and a raw recovery shows nothing. The tablet says the microSD card is an extension of the internal storage.

I don’t think it would be showing 50gb used if it was just thumbnails. And yes if the MSD doesn’t show data it will be encrypted.

It could be encrypted, when take out the SD as external device, there is no folder structure, and no raw result.

The used space  is the tablet mount as external device, and PC talk thru tablet to get the media information.

other thing is , when take out the 128G MSD , the tablet still has 128G and 50G used. Maybe the internal and external (MSD) has same volume size.

and it could be thumbnails

Probably have to image the device.  Their are tools that can get you a full extraction
