I’d like to ask for a quick confirmation from those who have dealt with this before. Anyone who wants to share details or tips is of course welcome, but at this point I’m mainly looking for confirmation.
Regarding Seagate 2.5” Slim SSHD models (500GB) with NAND-related issues: are these cases strictly solvable only by using a donor PCB with the exact same firmware, or is it also possible to resolve the issue using a PCB (same model) with a different firmware?
I’m asking because I vaguely remember, some years ago, having solved a similar case using a board with a different firmware, although in most of the cases I’ve handled (and according to what ACE Lab usually recommends) the indication is to use a PCB with matching firmware.
Does anyone have recent experience or insight on this?

The article you mentioned refers to NAND issues in the Rosewood family, while my drive is an older unit, unfortunately I don’t recall the exact family at the moment.
I’m aware that the general recommendation, and what ACE Lab support usually states, is to use a donor PCB with the same firmware. However, I remember reading somewhere — and I also vaguely recall a single case I worked on — where I was able to change the NAND state using a PCB of the same model but with different firmware.
That said, I may be misremembering the details, and my intention was only to confirm whether this is actually possible or if I’m mistaken. In any case, I really appreciate all the input and responses.
