Hello
I have a customer computer with one of these SSD drives. The Windows installation on it is corrupted and won't boot, even though I've tried booting. It also has BitLocker encryption, for which I have the decryption key.

The Optane volume is not showing.
That's needed to access the data.
PC3000 Portable Pro is great with these kind of issues.

Maybe. You have to get the Optane volume to show somehow and clone it, I assume you have already tried UFS explorer, boot Linux tools, etc.

If you cannot get it to show and clone, then nothing to do further.

I have one of these also and need to be able to access. Tim has a lot of knowledge.
Here's what I got from chatgpt
Can anybody recommend a used motherboard that supports this.
===================
Q:
I have an NVMe optane SSD. 512gb composed of 470gb visible data partition and an invisible cache partition of 30 GB
I have read that I need an optane capable motherboard with bifurcation enabled to see the cache partition.
what do I need to see the cache partition

To see and utilize the "invisible" 30 GB Optane cache partition on your 512 GB NVMe Optane SSD (which is likely a model like the Intel Optane Memory H10 or a similar hybrid drive), several key requirements must be met:

## System Requirements

- **Optane-Capable Motherboard:**
You need a motherboard that is officially supported by Intel for Optane Memory or Optane SSD caching. This usually means a motherboard with an Intel chipset such as Z490, Z390, H370, Q370, B360, B365, or Z370 (for the H10 series)[1][2].
- **M.2 Slot Compatibility:**
The M.2 slot must be PCIe Gen3 x4 and support the correct keying (typically M-key) for your Optane SSD[1].
- **CPU Compatibility:**
For standard Optane Memory acceleration, a 7th generation or newer Intel Core processor is required[2]. For hybrid drives like the H10, you should also have a compatible Intel CPU and chipset[1].
- **BIOS Support:**
The motherboard BIOS must support Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) and have the correct firmware or settings for Optane[2][1].
- **OS and Drivers:**
You need Windows 10 64-bit (RS5/1809 or later), and the latest Intel RST driver (version 17.9 or above)[1].

## Special Considerations: Bifurcation

- **PCIe Bifurcation:**
Some hybrid Optane SSDs, like the H10, internally use PCIe bifurcation to present both the Optane cache and the NAND flash as separate devices to the system.
  - **Motherboard Support:**
The motherboard must support PCIe bifurcation on the M.2 slot or, at minimum, must be able to recognize both devices. Not all consumer motherboards expose bifurcation settings in the BIOS, and some may handle it automatically[3][4].
  - **BIOS Settings:**
Check your BIOS for settings related to PCIe bifurcation or VMD (Volume Management Device) for the M.2 slot. If your motherboard does not expose these settings, it may not be possible to see both partitions unless the BIOS is specifically designed to support the hybrid drive[4].
  - **Detection Issues:**
Even with the correct hardware, some motherboards or OEM systems may not detect the Optane cache partition, especially if the drive uses custom firmware or if the motherboard lacks proper support[4].

## Summary Table

| Requirement | Details |
|----------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| Motherboard | Intel chipset, Optane supported, M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 slot |
| CPU | 7th gen or newer Intel Core (for standard Optane Memory) |
| BIOS | Supports Intel RST, Optane, and (ideally) PCIe bifurcation |
| OS | Windows 10 RS5 (1809) or later, 64-bit |
| Driver | Intel RST 17.9 or above |
| Additional | PCIe bifurcation in BIOS may be required for hybrid drives |

## What You Should Do

1. **Check Motherboard Compatibility:**
Ensure your motherboard is on Intel’s approved list for your specific Optane SSD model[1].
2. **Update BIOS and Drivers:**
Update to the latest BIOS and install the latest Intel RST driver[1][2].
3. **Check BIOS for Bifurcation/VMD:**
Look for PCIe bifurcation or VMD settings in the BIOS for the M.2 slot[4].
4. **Review System Recognition:**
Use Windows Device Manager and Intel’s Optane Memory and Storage Management application to see if both partitions are recognized[4].

If your motherboard does not support PCIe bifurcation for the M.2 slot or does not have the necessary BIOS options, you may not be able to see or use the cache partition as intended. In such cases, only the main data partition will be visible and usable[4][3].

I collect user laptop and install ssd os is booting but after unlock bitlock screen it loading and lodging and after sometimes it make Blue screen and restart.

I see in bios optane setting it show both partition available.

I try to boot from USB live different os but no one is detect SSD.

Any one can guide me how to add intel RST drive into live OS?
Or any live os available with this drive?

This solution seems simple enough. Actually, I had the same idea, but it's nice that somebody was able to confirm it.

-----------------------------
Posting my solution here in case anyone runs into this strangeness.

My issue was accessing the flash device on the Intel H10 M.2 SSD. The m.2 connector is "split" into two x2 interfaces, one to the 3DXpoint "flash" and one to the QLC non-3dXPoint flash. Without motherboard x2 bifurcation the second x2 interface was never seen by the host.

I placed the M.2 SSD into a M.2 to PCIe adapter. I then placed tape over the PCIe card edge to block PCIe lanes 0-1 from connecting. This left the host to see the second set of x2 lanes as the only ones and connected.

Now I can see the Intel H10 flash controller as an x2 device. Sadly, from the QLC flash device I am getting this error:

nvme nvme1: Device not ready; aborting initialisation, CSTS=0x0

but it is seen...

I suppose that one could dedicate an adapter to this task by cutting the relevant traces rather than relying on tape.

Its normally the cache which is the issue in Optane. I presuming you can see the main partition via an SSD adapter? If you do have an Optane ready motherboard capable of supporting bifurcation, set it in the BIOS. This is best done outside of your laptop environment.

  • Put the SSD in the M.2 slot (do not boot from it).
  • Boot to an OS.
  • You should see the Optane Cache displayed in UFS Explorer.
  • Make an image of the cache.

You can assemble both images with UFS. They have a blog post about it.

However if its BL encrypted, UFS has issues with it.

So combines the two SSD parts into one image and load that image into R-Studio.

You should see the BL partition.

Thank you all for your reply
Finally I able to image both partition under Linux.

But any one can help me to rebuild raid?
Currently my UFS not support this.

Create one image from the UFS build using the cache from both images. Then mount that in R-Studio.
